We had a wonderful evening for the launch of Tapestry of War at Waterstones in Inverness. Intelligent questions, enquiring minds, what an audience! It was great to be able to talk about the book with Marsali there, the daughter of the couple whose story initially inspired me to write this book. Marsali shared with us her mother’s initial shock on arriving in the Highlands of Scotland after living her privileged colonial lifestyle in Egypt – shock at the endlessly boiled food, no electricity, the terrible weather, the undrinkable coffee! And how she taught herself to cook, having always had servants, in order to be able to prepare fine food for herself and her family. A wonderful woman, on whom I based my character Fran.
Thanks again to all who came along. I believe we all learnt something, not least me!
And thanks to Waterstones in Inverness, who have given me longstanding support
There will be a further event to launch the paperback version of the book in September in Glasgow. Hope to see you there.
